Digital learning has comprehensively shifted the landscape of education and training. If there is one industry that will not only be fundamentally disrupted but completely upturned over the next decade, this will be it.
From both sides of the classroom – be it the sourcing and management of educational assets; the peer-to-peer teacher & tutor networks, the training of tutors and educators or the variety of new platforms and methods of learning and assessment – it is clear that learning has irrevocably changed.
There has been a rapid proliferation of MOOCs as well as Paid Platforms, Virtual & Augmented Reality Services and a myriad of mobile apps built and developed over the past few years, creating a £129 billion industry by 2020, growing at 8% year-on-year. Big Data, AI & Adaptive Learning are now set to push this revolution in learning further with real-time analytics, insights and tailored recommendations.
This range of technologies has been primarily driven by the educational sector but now firmly encompasses enterprise services as well. Companies across the UK are now spending an average of £800 / employee / year on their learning and skills development – however, the effectiveness of that training, in terms of content recall, productivity gain and a tangible return on investment is often poor and difficult to measure. Over 70% of L&D Teams reported that they were failing to improve employee productivity through their current training programmes – what is even more concerning for companies is that employees, on average only tend to retain just 8% – 10% of the information delivered after a month’s time. This is often caused by a lack of time, engagement and attentiveness where content is rarely reinforced (and subsequently, measured) within the work environment. 79% of employers mentioned furthermore that they did not have the tools to measure either current or potential development of their individual employees.
Acadmi is hoping to solve many of these current issues with a far more responsive and adaptive training solution, shaped around the individual employee. Smaller, bitesized lessons that will not impinge upon an employee’s time; a repetition of content to reinforce knowledge; reminders for employees to apply their training within the workplace and pre and post-surveys to measure the effectiveness of that learning are just some of the ideas that we are now developing.
Our partnership with Kinetik (headed by the dynamic and insightful Ketan Varia), a Training Consultancy with a particular focus upon Business Transformation, Change Management and Process Optimisation & Excellence, will provide members with a broad range of management tools instantly accessible on their Acadmi App. Each course lasts for around 1 hour and is packed full of information – delivered in an engaging and interactive way. There will be lots of opportunities to share and compare uploaded assignments and information with your immediate peer group at work. We have started with 5 Courses – RACI, Breaking Assumptions, SECAR, Fishbone Analysis and Kano but will rapidly scale this to over seventy, offering a truly comprehensive and unique set of tools. There will be hundreds of short lessons, top tips, interactive exercises and peer-to-peer assignments. These are simple but highly practical courses that have been tried and tested with a broad spectrum of companies of all sizes – both here and abroad. This training will offer employees the knowledge they require and put into use immediately and in the palm of their hand.
Training is changing dramatically and we are sure we will need to innovate rapidly in order to keep pace – data and how we harness that information will be key in this new phase of the learning revolution and Acadmi hopes to always stay one step ahead of the curve.
